As the quality and safety concerns over electric cars continue to arise, the Chevy Volt is a key suspect in a house fire. That's right, the all-electric car may be a conspirator in a couple's burnt down garage.
Last Thursday, Storm Connors and his wife, Dee, awoke to a smoke alarm and a blazing fire in their garage. According to a local news report in Barkhamsted, Connecticut, the fire was reported at around 4:14 a.m., at which 50 firefighters arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire.
Sitting aside the Volt in the Connor's garage was a 1987 Suzuki Samurai SUV that Mr. Connors had converted from gas to electric power, which GM spokesman Rob Peterson believes is the real culprit. "We suspect the Volt was more the victim of the fire than the cause," claimed Peterson.
The Chevy Volt, and all of its electro brothers cruising the streets, is supposedly the key to American energy independence and environmentally-friendly travel. But this may be too early to tell.
What we do know, is the "vehicular savior of the planet," better work on its alibi, because it is now a primary suspect of arson.
