"Look Deep Into My Eyes": Experts Agree Obama Using NLP

Just in case anyone thinks that the reports of our new President Barack Hussein Obama using 70's style-mass-hypnosis techniques on his audiences are overblown, I came across a series of Barack Obama videos on an NLP training site. Apparently the experts agree not only that he's using it, but that he does it so well they can use his techniques to train others.

Some background on NLP and its use, from the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons:

A fundamental tool of “conversational hypnosis” is pacing and leading—a way for the hypnotist to bypass the listener’s critical faculty by associating repeated statements that are unquestionably accurate with the message he wants to convey.

In his Denver acceptance speech, Obama used the phrases “that’s why I stand here tonight,” “now is the time,” and “this moment” 14 times. Paces are connected to the lead by words such as “and,” “as,” “because,” or “that is why.” For example, “we need change” (who could disagree?)…and…that is why I will be your next President.”
Techniques of trance induction include extra slow speech, rhythm, tonalities, vagueness, visual imagery, metaphor, and raising of emotion. Hypnotists often have patients count. In a speech after the primaries closed, Obama said: “Sixteen months have passed (paused)…Thousands (pause) of miles…(pause)…Millions of voices….”

Hypnotists call this a distraction technique: sending the dominant hemisphere on an assignment involving linguistic processes, thus opening the nondominant hemisphere to suggestion.

Hand gestures can be used as hypnotic anchors, or to aid in hypnotic command implantation. They can be difficult to distinguish from innocent gestures used for emphasis. Obama, however, uses some gestures extraordinarily often and for very specific words such as “believe” and “chose.” His characteristic thumb-and-forefinger gesture looks like a hand holding a pencil—as if you were in a voting booth. The gesture of pointing sends the subconscious message that a person in authority is giving a command.

Obama actually said at one time: “a light will shine down from somewhere, it will light upon you, you will experience an epiphany, and you will say to yourself, ‘I have to vote for Barack.’”

It probably also explains why he's struggling some in his attempts to transition from manipulative campaign speeches of seemingly insightful platitudes to the more substantive policy speeches required by his new job.

Obama Pimp-Slaps Hillary into Shape

With Washington still in the post-coital afterglow of Tuesday's inauguration, Barack Obama has been getting down to work on what seems to have been two of his primary objectives: neutralizing the threat that Hillary Clinton poses to his re-nomination in 2012, and effectively sidelining her with a nice title while taking key areas of United States interest out of her portfolio.

Thursday afternoon's announcement of Richard Holbrooke as envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, and George Mitchell to the Middle East was co-branded and gave Hillary credit for building the team, but make no mistake, her influence is being strategically diminished within the Obama administration.

The media spin has been predictably positive and stresses the importance of teamwork to tackle current US foreign policy challenges. But a few bloggers on the left are already starting to question whether Holbrooke is the right man for the job. Presumably Holbrooke and Mitchell will do the heavy lifting in the key zones at Obama's direction while Hillary negotiates trade agreements with Caribbean nations and doles out freebies in Africa.

Obviously Obama's done a masterful job of co-opting Hillary into his cabinet and making her responsible (in name) for his foreign policy... thereby making it almost impossible for her to run against him on foreign policy in 2012.

Simultaneously he's taken two of the most high-profile items in her foreign-service portfolio off her plate with Holbrooke and Mitchell. That's like putting YOU in charge of the show.. but I'll handle the content. It's almost a no-lose situation for Obama because no matter how badly he conducts foreign policy, his chief rival in the party is just as responsible for it.

Whatever you want to say about Bill and Hillary Clinton, they aren't lacking in political savvy. They know what's going on. The question is, once the sting of her new pimp's slap wears off, how will Hillary respond?

Global Warming Snapshot: Snow Blankets UAE for 2nd Time Ever

As if we needed any more proof... it's now snowing in places where the local people don't even have a word for it.

Shocked residents struggled for words to describe the phenomenon. Weather-watchers in the region rushed to document it. The approximately 10 cm of snow on top of Jebal Jais is only the SECOND time in recorded history that it's snowed in the United Arab Emirates. The first was in 2004.

According to the RAK Government, temperatures on Jebel Jais dropped to -3°C on Friday night. On Saturday, the area had reached 1°C.
Major Saeed Rashid al Yamahi, a helicopter pilot and the manager of the Air Wing of RAK Police, said the snow covered an area of five kilometres and was 10cm deep.

“The sight up there this morning was totally unbelievable, with the snow-capped mountain and the entire area covered with fresh, dazzling white snow,” Major al Yamahi said.

“The snowfall started at 3pm Friday, and heavy snowing began at 8pm and continued till midnight, covering the entire area in a thick blanket of snow. Much of the snow was still there even when we flew back from the mountain this afternoon. It is still freezing cold up there and there are chances that it might snow again tonight.”

I guess how you respond to this news will probably depend on where you stand on the issue of global warming.

Believers in global warming probably see it as some sort of confirmation of their theory that the earth is warming (updated recently to claim pretty much any weather changes are related to global warming).

Pravda readers may claim it's a sign of an ice age coming.

Most of us just see it as confirmation that the enviro-whackos don't have any idea what they're talking about.
